Shonisani Solomon Makhado, from Vuvha, Nzhelele, born with a physical disability, turned nature for solace, transforming barren land into thriving ecosystem.

A disabled man with a green thumb, planting trees around his village and spreading hope is also a talented vocalist, bringing joy through music and leading women ‘s group,Vuvha Traditional Dance, keeping culture alive.

Thangoman, as he’s affectionately known, and a group of 35 women perform traditional dances at cultural events, keeping stories and customs alive. ” Our traditions remind us of who we are”, says the leader.
After defying odds and winning hearts, he runs Vuvha Soccer Academy, a soccer club for youth in his community.
His club teaches life skills, teamwork and discipline to local kids.
His dedication earned him Old Mutual Community Builder of the Year in 2001while he was still a youth, Makhado Mayoral Achievers Awards 2004 for Community Builder of the Year just to mention a few.

” My disability cannot stop me from giving back”, a shy Thangoman concluded.
